Reconstructive Surgery

Hand Surgery

Hands are a complex body part that are integral for a good quality of life. Trauma to these areas can involve the skin, tendons, nerves, ligaments, bones, blood vessels, or a combination. Accurate repair or reconstruction is required to regain function.

      • Tendon disorders e.g. trigger finger/thumb, De Quervain’s syndrome
      • Nerve disorders e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome
      • Swellings e.g. ganglions, benign tumours, malignant tumours
      • Arthritis e.g. thumb base, terminal finger joints
      • Dupuytren’s disease
      • Skin cancer (see below)

Dr Anita closely collaborates with specialized physiotherapists (known as ‘hand therapists’) for hand rehabilitation, a crucial component for achieving functional recovery.

Adult Skin Cancer Surgery

Given the high prevalence in the Australian population, Dr Anita developed a strong interest in treating skin cancer.  Whilst she can treat skin cancer in any anatomical location, as a plastic surgeon, she is called upon by dermatologists to treat lesions in more anatomically sensitive areas, such as the face and hands.  Dr Anita treats the following conditions;

    • Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
    • Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
    • Melanoma
    • Other less common skin cancers e.g. sebaceous carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma
    • Pre-cancerous lesions

In accordance with national guidelines for the management of skin cancer, Dr Anita is a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team at the Skin Cancer Unit at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London

      • Soft tissue lesions eg lipoma, vascular lesions, other benign lesions
      • Pressure areas
      • Chronic wounds
      • Scar management

Paediatric Plastic Surgery

Children can present with acquired conditions after trauma, burns, infection, as well as congenital conditions (i.e. conditions they were born with). Dr Anita finds it so rewarding to be able to treat and improve outcomes for this group of patients and their families.  The conditions she treats include:
